The chloride Report

Hi Everyone,

I had previously reported that our lake contains chlorides from nearby winter road salting and that I’d like to see the chloride levels stop increasing.

Good news - the 2022 chloride test results from the Ministry of Environment, Parks, and Conservation (MECP) indicated that there had been a slight decrease in lake water chloride levels.

Recent discussions with the MECP and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) revealed a going forward plan to help protect our lake that includes:

-Continued yearly chloride testing by the MECP under its Lake Partner Program

-Continued use of pre-wetted road salt in the lake vicinity by MTO contractors to further reduce lake chloride levels

-Quality control of MTO contractor salting operations by the MTO

This is a good plan that certainly has my support.

Mike Grinnell
